Since in this problem 2 is forcing, I'll bid that and see what happens. This is a hand where I want opps to bid. Suppose it goes:

1 1 pass 2
3 3 5

now I can probably bid 6 because pard is likely to have a singleton diamond.

3H fit jump.

This seems the most descriptive first bid, and I hope that later in the auction partner will realise I'm not doing blackwood of some sort because I've got the spade cards.

5 is a option too- P will know my good and no control, if he says 6, or 6- 6 is LOOK for a grand slam.

I don't understand 3 followed by 5 to ask for a control, nor do I understand an immediate 5 to ask for a diamond control. I always thought an immediate 5 on this auction asked for control, an immediate 5 was exclusion blackwood, and 3 followed by 5 asked for spade quality.

I think the correct way is to bid arend's plan.

I would bid 2 if that is forcing.

My second choice would be 4 splinter, but partner is almost surely going to sign off over this even with a diamond control since he will have bad trumps and probably not a whole lot of extras. Then I'll be guessing at the 5-level anyway.

edit: arend's plan sounds fine too

ditto. 3 followed by 4 if partner signs off. If he rebids 4, then 5 next.

Roland

Same for me.
Kind regards,

If youre going to commit this hand to the 5 level, I like a direct 5. I'm willing to give up after:

1 - 3
3 - 4
4...

Why? 5S will demand partner to bid 6 with a diamond control, given that I don't have solid hearts I don't want to do that. I'd much rather get the heart king into play as well.

Besides I have a sneaking suspicion that if someone were to post a hand like Qxxxxxx --- xxxx xx a lot of the forum regulars would bid something like 5S (not that I would, but I've noticed a huge tendency here to jump to the 5 level with a preemptive hand, including 5M openers). Of course I'm sure no one will admit to this but these "clear cut" bids aren't always so clear cut to partner ;)

I bid 2 first just because on competitive direct 5 could be taken as preemptive, but actually when RHO has passed this is not an option.
