3N!-Dbl-ReDbl-Pass;
?

The only reference I've been able to find online to this auction seems to indicate that it is 'to play' 3NXX. I suppose it would tend to indicate GOOD stops in 3 suits (I play no outside controls in 3N opener), while Pass would be not-so-good stops and 4 pass-or-correct.

Is this a reasonable method?

You can play a lot of methods. 4 for correction, pass and rdbl to play is perfectly playable.

I prefer:
pass = transfer your minor (RDbl = ; 4 = )
RDbl = ok to play

How can you have 'doubt' when pard makes what is perhaps the most descriptive opening bid available? There are tactical considerations involved here, however.

XX says; we've got 'em, 4 = p/c. Pass is to play, but may not be as emphatic as xx ;)

If you haven't discussed this, it is to play. If you have discussed this, you have wasted times which you should rather have spent on discussion about advancing takeout doubles or overcalls :)
