North's dbl is bad. Yes, counting HCP, he has extra. But his bad spades suit, shortness in one unbid suit, scattered honors all point to defense. And opener is marked with almost half of the HCP, North should not try to force to pd to bid or punish . Pass is the only choice.

As for South, with 6 diamonds and very weak hand, I would pull pd's dbl to 2D.

Agree with the above comments. Why X and why didn't South pull to 2D?
