Do people really pass 1H with this hand (serious question)? you could just be laydown for a grand let alone game and be passing 1H. Maybe it's unlikely to get passed out but to me this is a very nice hand in support of hearts and if I pass I can never show a hand this good. To me it's just a question of whether to start with 1N or 2H, I really wouldn't even be ashamed to bid 2H with this hand.

I wouldn't pass that hand either, but there is somethng odd going on here, and I did say that it depended on one's responding style :P It just seemed to me more logical for responder to be showing a max near raise rather than to be running from 2 or making a silly 'tolerance' bid: silly because no way does such a hand want to play 3 rather than 2, esp at BAM scoring.

I think that even without BAM scoring the 3C bid shows some sort of H tolerance. After all partner has bid his H twice; why do you want to insist on your suit, when he he has a decent hand with long H?

In answer to the above - no, I would not pass 1H with that either.
