In big deal the name of West is slightly overlapped by the running score.

We have the ability to turn them off at the top, at the table, altogether, and by username. The ads we're seeing are filtered by us, so we can also avoid selecting noisy ads (the few we see now are the quiet ones, believe it or not).
We don't yet know if any of this ad stuff is at all worthwhile. But if nothing else, we'll find out, and can always use the space for something else (our own ads, or your ads, or something along those lines).
I'm coming up with rules for when to turn them on/off automatically. We can fiddle with some of Richard's ideas once we get some more data.
Nothing is cast in stone yet.

I don't know if this is the way it was before, but the cards played to this trick, in the middle of the table, in big deal, are not vertically centered in their rectangles. They are hugging the bottom.
Thanks,
Dan

Actually I might prefer paying for an ad-free bridge environment.

P.S.: I would make quite a bet that a lot of people will be much more upset about ads at the table than me.

My wireless router had been configured to block all traffic from (amongst other advertising-related domains) the domain media.fastclick.net
Once I released that block it cleared the scripting error message. I also get more advertising passing through, of course. I don't begrudge BBO the advertising, but I try to filter it out when going to other sites.
EDIT: Belay that - still getting the script error. Used to get it every time I would join a table as spectator for the first time on logging in, but no longer (hence my feeling that it was cured). Now I am still getting it on occasion when leaving a table. It may be caused by another domain blockage, perhaps?

As far as I'm concerned, you can be as noisy as you like when navigating around BBO, but once sat at a table an ad which is moving is very distracting. A stationary ad would be no problem at all; it could even change after each hand, say. But the way it is now, if I was watching vugraph then I would grab some other window and put it on top of BBO to cover up the offending ad.

Or dummy gets a big ad and everyone else gets no ads? (haha, more reason to hog!)
I've been thinking that the irritating thing about ads is that most of the time you don't like the ad. Its contents could be useless to you, or it could be an ugly and irritating design. But ads of products that are actually useful, I like.
Is this unusual? I think I'm exhibiting normal traits regarding ads here (although my demographics may not be a majority one in BBO/Bridge) I would click on ads like "save x% of this useful service!" and wouldn't mind doing so at all. I regularly click on/watch ads that are of interest to me.

OK, I unblocked view.atdmt.com from the router and haven't had the problem recur since, having played for about an hour (it was popping up about every 2 or 3 minutes). So I consider it cured. Whether what I did with the router was in any way connected with the problem is pure speculation on my part. No particular reason to think that there is a connection other than correlation with result.

Thanks for that. Simplest solution would be for admin to permit uploads, of course.

In fact so far the thing that I've found most annoying (to the point where I've stopped watching the current VuGraph and exited BBO) is that they make a sound on reloading. I've turned off the sound in BBO, but that makes no difference. Is there a way around this?

To turn off the clicking sound the ads make when reloading:
Start->control panel->Sounds and Audio Devices
a window will pop up. click the "Sounds" tab
Scroll down the list of "Program events" until you see program called
"Windows Explorer"
Under it, you'll see an event called 'START NAVIGATION"
Select this event and set the sound to "(None)" in the dropdown at the bottom of the window.

I dont know if anyone has mentioned this, but it appears that the option for "Classic View" will not take if you are seated at a table, you must be in a lobby (somewhere).
So many experts, not enough X cards.

You only see ads at a table if you are in "wide screen mode". Use Control-W to switch between wide and narrow modes, but you must have at least 1024x768 screen resolution to use wide mode.
The reason Control-C does not work at a table to switch in and out of Classic Mode is because there is almost no difference between the 2 modes when you are at a table. I did not want to create a situation in which someone might hit Control-C by mistake, see nothing happen, and then see something completely unexpected happen after leaving the table (and perhaps not know how to change things back to the way they were before).
Note that Control-C is used for "Claim" when you are a player.

It's not just that ctrl-C doesn't work, but if I go through the gear menu to change that option, and click apply, it won't apply, nor will it be saved when I go back out to the lobby. This was as a kibbitzer, using 4.9.3. I can't switch from c->n nor from n->c at a table.

I realize this can be confusing. Maybe I will disable the Classic View checkbox in the General tab of the Options dialog if that dialog box is opened while at a table.
