If you want to give your opinion, you will have to upgrade to version 4.9.1:

Click for more information and download instructions

Star and lock symbols have a new look in version 4.9.1. I like the new stars and locks a lot, but I want to know what other people think.

So please let me know what you think by posting a reply or by sending me an e-mail (fred@bridgebase.com). Feedback on other aspects of 4.9.1 is also welcome.

I think you ment to change the stars everywhere but in a playing room the stars are still old style.
I cant comment about the new look yet.

I like it.

Do you notice that the locks have a 3D effect thats a lot more apparent now? Maybe more things, especially when mouseover can have a 3D effect? I think an easy way to create 3D effect is to add a grey shadow.

I prefer the new stars.. it could be my imagination, but stars on yellows and invisibles look a tad bid larger than stars on general friends and neutrals (probably due to optical illusion based on background color and the black outline). I aslo prefer the new locks, but less strongly. The old locks with the white background did stand out more, and that may be more important when looking for a tourney to play in...

I give the new stars a big plus, move to those
I give the new locks a modest approval, and could be swayed to prefer the old ones. For sure keep the lock with the white background on the pop up information box about tourneys, it makes it more apparent on that gray background.

The stars look great, if they are not on one of the yellows. Maybe it would help, if the yellows where a little paler.
The locks are fine.

imho they look really good, i use a babyblue color for hosts, so didnt make any trouble...
after loading the new version, for the first time in 4 years, i had twice the problem with ''insufficent memory, should close...'' message... Could the new version be cause of this problem?

The appearance of the stars isn't a big deal, and I don't have an opinion one way or another.

I do support the idea of updating the appearance of the interface every once in awhile just to keep it fresh.

Could be. I will investigate. Generally good idea to restart your computer when this happens and see if that makes a difference.

Do you see the error message immediately upon launching the application or does it happen when you have already been online for a while?

If the problem persists and you have any more details that might be useful, please let me know.

I like both the new stars and locks. I think they have a much friendlier appearance, although I agree with Ben that the lock isn't as obvious against the gray tourney background.

Hey Fred,

When you do these updates, would it be possible not to overwrite bbover.ini? Some of us have customized that file for firewall traversal, etc., and it is just a little bit of a pain to have to re-edit it after an update.

thanks,

Todd

I like the locks.

I don't like the stars.

The locks do not stand out as much as on the ‘classic view’, I like the stars and both look neater. Both are fine and serve their purpose B)

I like the stars. They are not as blocky as they used to be and I think the softer approach is better.

The locks I'm somewhat ambivalent about but I think they as well as better.

as someone that is needing glasses now that I have reached the grand old age of 28 (and if you believe that !!!), I find the stars a little to small for my personal liking

useless information and an optical illusion,,, the stars on yellows appear larger than other stars and when you mouse on the yellow the star looks a fraction smaller and brighter.

I like the new stars a lot better, and i think they should be used at the table as well. Generally my feeling is that the aesthetics of the BBO interface suffers somewhat from having too many different colors and boxes etc. Some of it may be unavoidable to present the information, but for example I think the blinking borders around the "Declarer wins trick 8"-information boxes are optically annoying and don't help so much.

I also like the new locks better; they stand out less, but they are not very important information anyway (as they don't distinguish between a private club and an exclusion list of 3 people, as far as I can tell).
