I noticed when playing in a 20 board teams match yesterday that there was a countdown timer, but setting a time limit per board doesn't seem to be an option when setting up a match. The countdown clock started at something ridiculous like 220 minutes, but I'd quite like to be able specify 7 or 8 minutes per board for teams matches that I run.

I bidding the suit below the suit I'm actually showing not to be described as a "transfer" for the benefit of people unfamiliar with the concept of a transfer

so that when time is up the match can be concluded, boards skipped & averaged? The TD can currently average out unplayed boards "by hand". Maybe that is good enough for the expected small number of boards that will remain unplayed when time runs out?

It's more to put presure on the players to play faster and to try replicate face-to-face conditions where bridge is time-limited. I'm only really interested in it for serious practice matches where I can specify the time limits and number of boards exactly as per the conditions of contest for the target event.

I'm still curious about what gave rise to the count-down timer when I played in a teams match yesterday as there is no option in the set up to be clocked. I also note that the clock seem to be visible to players but not kibitzers.

Well uday can probably explain the rationale better than anyone. but in the beginning, if you got in a team game and the host got disconnected and couldn't come back, the game never ended. If you tried to leave and come back to the site, you were automatically sucked into the game again. The time limit put an end to that. A long time ago, uday added the option to "Withdraw from team game" which solved the problem and if two players withdraw it is cancelled. As a yellow, I use to spend a lot of time "cancelling" team games for people. More recently, this never seems to be necessary.
