If you were playing with a pickup partner and agreed SAYC, what do you think the standard meaning of double is in the following auction?

Look at your hand. If you have long spades, it's some sort of take out. If you have short spades, it's PEN.

Without discussion, it seems to me it's a penalty double. It's possible opener has some sort of 4-5-1-3 hand and the opponent has made a bad choice. Not likely to happen often, but it's possible. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that many players have different meanings for this, but a pick-up playing SAYC? I guess it's penalty. That doesn't mean you can't bid on, but I would expect a hand where, based on what opener has heard so far, he thinks 2SX might be a good place to play.

I play it as take out, don't know what it is in SAYC
for me something like:
x-xxxxx-xxx-xxxx
and not minimal (14+)

Although SAYC is not specified at this level of detail, it must be penalty in SAYC since that's what we've all learned at school.

I prefer to play it as take-out, fortunately both my IRL partners agree with this. I have no idea what the experts play.

Assuming NB means Pass, dbl by opener
is for penalty, since Pass would be forcing.
