I think I'll pass, no Heart fit, and 5 Spades...

Seems like a LOTT situation. They have a 7 card spade fit (assume partner is 1-4-4-4), we have a 7 card fits in hearts and clubs. If we can make 3 anything, they will be down 3 in 2S. In addition, neither side may be able to make anything, with 2S down one and 3H down two.

The only possible bid over 2S double is 2NT if you play that as "natural". This might work out well, as partner might carry to 3NT (in which case, however, 2Sx is better) or 2S might make exaclty 2 while you beat 2S only one. So, what is the problem? I pass. If partner is void is spades, this maynot turn out as well as I hope.

Well, I also agree with pd's decsion to pass.
I held

void
KQJxx
KQxx
AQxx

Dummy held

K9x
Txxxx
JTxx
K

and unfortunately 2S doubled rolls home. I really dislike making a t/o double on a void, but wht other option is there? Note that had I but 1 S and pd only 4, the contract would fail.

Flat board!

Hi Ron!
I prefer to play over any weak opening DBL, where pass even with 4 cards is possible. I never dbl with void and rare with singleton. The way I actualy play is 2NT like Raptor - unbalanced hand with at least 4M. In your example bidding will be:
(2SP)-2NT(1)-p-3CL(2)
p -3HE(3)-p-4HE(4)
...
1. Opening hand with 4+HE, unbalanced
2. 0-7HCP
3. (15)16-18(19)HCP, 5+HE
4. Not best game, but at table I will never pass with fit and 2 A, despite one not work good in SP.

By my last invention, meta overcalls, posted in BBO forum with examples:
(2SP)-3DI(1)-p-3NT(2)
p -p ....

1. Opening hand with 4+DI-4+HE, unbalanced
2. Knoledge about both suits can help to dicide final contract.

Misho, what do you do if you have a really balanced hand and you want to make a natural overcall 2nt?

Hi Hongjun!
Way to menage rebid of strong NT was invented many years ago by polish players - simple raise with 4 cards in p suit or cheapest suit - scrambling, mean strong NT without 4 cards in p suit, most of time with 4-4 in unbided suits.

Addition: As usually I wrote not very clear, normally answer to my thoughts, instead of actual question :P.
DBL at second level show hand like strong NT, because with distributional hand for take out 2NT is available and with less HCP and bal hand you will probably pass. With simple Lebensohl is not problem to continue bidding.

Sometimes a preempt just works, and I have 2 bullets and good 5 card trump suit. What do y want? Another ace and a 6 th spade 8) Sometimes preempts just work, and they get a perfect dummy, even Hamman is wrong sometimes :D There is always next brd.
