btw how does one quote in a box only part of a post and then post a reply to it? I seem only able to quote the entire post?
Just type in anything like apoidhfaw for the reply, then preview post, then go down and you can edit it as desired, including truncating the quoted portion.
I think the question might really be asking, how do you edit in the middle of the quote, then get normal text, then another quote, followed by normal text, and so on, which I still havent figured out how to do unless you add the {QUOTE] and{/QUOTE} symbols before and after each quoted section.
When you press the quote button to quote a text, two editable "windows" open.. an upper one for your new text, and a lower one with the entire quoted text.
You can, if you like, switch between then these window panes and edit the bottom material. You cand even Cut and paste some of the text from the bottom window and past into the upper window and then place that inside quotes using the quote button.
here is something you might not know. If you edit the (quote) command (square brackets instead of those), you can add stuff to the quote header... for instance of this quote

I made the initial quote command read (quote=Inquiry is showing you how) of course that was in square brackets... using cut and paste and multiple quote commands you can parse any post rather than have the much longer section of the full quote.
Hope that helps. And you will note, this (quote=bid_em_up,Jun 20 2006, 03:41 PM) is exactly how the initial quote starts with the equal sign.
