Scoring: IMP

pass - 1NT! - 2! - pass
2! - pass - 2 - pass
pass - x - pass - ?

1NT = 11-14, could be semi-balanced
2 = cappelletti, some 6-suiter (could be rarely 5-suiter), strength upto double (say 13)
2 = ask for the color (can bid own suit instead of ask)

What is the double?
What will you dp?

I hate the double: but it should mean that opener has a maximum with 4432 shape, and a doubleton small .

We are not a favourite to beat 2: his double is takeout.

So the choices are 2N, scrambling, or 3. I will choose 3, with a mental note to tell partner not to make these doubles anymore. The fact that he has a weak hand does not mean that I must have values.

Partner didn't double after 2, but now he makes a takeout double. How the hell will we make 8 tricks??? I pass...

3. -300 is cheaper than -470.

2N as scrambling is OK I guess, but I don't mind playing the 4-3 with pard's hand taking the tap. If pard takes 2N as natural, passes, and it gets hit, I'm running anyway.

Pard likes to live dangerously
Double is T/O. 2 rates to make. 2N (scramble) or 3 are the (not-exciting) choices.
I'd assume pard does not have good diamonds, otherwise might have doubled 2.

Double is take-out
I bid 2NT scrambling: partner cannot have particularly good diamonds (2353, say) because he would have doubled 2D (as 2D wasn't natural, double of 2D wasn't take-out).

This looks to be a perfectly good matchpoint auction, until I notice it is IMPs and partner should get himself under control!

This bidding makes no sense, so I'm crediting pard for opening 1NT on a 1444. So 3 for me.

2NT scrambling for me. My second choice is abstain because it's an impossible auction. But sometimes we have to field strange bids from p.
