Sitting south I picked up this random collection. I chose not to open. The auction continued as follows. East is a known poker player and it seemed pretty clear that he had psyched the 2NT call.... what call do you make over 3♠?

4H. Surely I can only have 4 of them, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered doubling 2NT

4♥ now, though I would have prefered to bid a straight 3♠ over 2NT.

4♥, no problem... I already told p I have values, and that I can still raise to game.

However, like whereagles, I prefer an immediate 3♠ bid instead of the Dbl.

4 ♥ is easy enough. I like the X of 2 NT, as it shows pd not the legth in the other suits, but the overall strength of the hand, so that he can decide later, what to do. 3 ♠ may only work in a well established partnership and at least in mine does not show this hand at all.
