Scoring: MP

(1D)-1H-(1S)-2C
(3S)-??

This is another hand from Denver that was circulated by email. None of the other panel members made the same call as I did, but I am stubborn enough to think that I got it right. I wonder if I will get some support here.
Please note: I am interested in boring, bog standard, 2/1.

Pass. I have no club fit and RHO opened my 6 card side suit. Partner couldn't raise my 5 card suit. I definitely won't bid.

I'll assume you Xed, but I don't like it. For one theyre often bidding 4 (yes this happens), and secondly I'm not sure I can beat them.

Pass.. if partner had clubs and hearts he would have bid 3... I might like to bid 4, but partner would never figure out that it was this hand.

Yes I voted for double. I don't think that this double should be "take-out" when all four suits have been bid. I'm not sure that we can beat them either, but the prospects are good. I have a void in partner's suit, long diamonds behind opener, and the AK in a suit where partner (usually) has at most 2 cards.

I think that bidding is crazy (sorry Luis) so the choice is between passing and doubling. I think that we are very likely to set it, and the double can make a significant difference at matchpoints. I wouldn't dream of doubling at IMPs.

For what it is worth, partner had xx xx xx AKxxxxx, opener was minimal with 4 spades. At the table they passed and 3S was down 1 for a decent score. Most of the panel voted for pass, with a couple of 4D bidders (crazy I say!), and me, the doubler.

I don't think 50 and 100 is a significant difference.

Partner happened to have the AK of clubs, but sometimes he won't. I imagine setting 3S 1 trick was a good score and doubt 100 would have been significantly better. Had 3S been cold, -140 and -530 would be a big difference.

The only reason to double (I agree it can be only for penalty) is to bar pard from competing in 4

Choise is only between pass and double, I cant imagine bidding with this hand again. Everyone seems to be freakish, but should be better off defending.

Double may produce a big number occasionally , but I think I ll pass.
I hope pd leads a trumps or club.
