Exactly! And here's why:

You may have good support and a shortness with several hand strengths.

If you want to play in game but have no slam interest: Don't tell anyone about your singleton!

This means: If you tell partner about your singleton you have a slam try (note that you could have a game try also, but since a splinter bid forces us to the game level this is ruled out :P)
