Running a duplicate tournament

Once the tournament has started, there isn't much to be done except:

1. The moment it starts, check the table list. If you see a sitout pair at a table, replace the sitout pair with 2 substitutes
2. You then make your "welcome" announcements to the tourney. Instruct the players to call you if their opponents or partner seem stuck; I usually like to tell them to give the disconnected person a chance to return before yelling for the director.
3. Then just wait; you'll see an occasional call (or more!) for the director. Usually connection problems are the main reason you will be called to a table.  When I arrive at a table, I always ask "Need a director?"  - many calls are accidental, or resolve themselves before I arrive  However, you will still find yourself making a lot of substitutions.  This seems to be the primary role of the director once the tourney has started
4. Up to you whether you want to get into the business of score adjustments. I almost never do. Similarly, I discourage complaints about alerts, lack of alerts, poor explanations, etc.
