You are South and fourth seat. Imps. Favorable. I realize these deals lately have not been all that interesting. Part of the goal of this was to eliminate bias and lately I've been finding real deals to get objective interference. Thoughts?

Actually I thought this hand was interesting for both N and S in terms of valuation. I thought a while about whether to have S show a balanced 16-18 (which includes 5M), or a 2 suiter. The poor spade suit and short suit honors argued for this, but I thought the right-siding considerations and better chances of finding a 5-3 spade fit made the 2 suited route a bit better.

Less obvious perhaps is the question of whether N should sell his hand as a balanced GF despite only having a 7 count (normally GF for me begins at 8, and you can downgrade soft 8s sometimes if you want). The risk of GF with balanced minimums is that you can end up in no-play NT contracts with only 24 hcp. Here however, N has such good filler cards that perhaps his hand is worth a full GF in NT anyway?

IMPrecision version...

1C-1S 16+, 5-8 bal or 5-10 diamonds
2S-4S 5S/4m, game

With all North's spot cards, I think I'd just bid game.

Polish: 1C-1H; 1S-1N; 2S-4S.
Having to rebid 2M rather than 2C (which would show the 4M5C 15-17 hand) is not so great for these auctions.

Two-way pass:

pass 1
1 2
3 3NT (end)

pass = 0-8 or 15+
1 = 0-8 or 15+
1 = nat 5 cards, 15-20
2 = nat 4-7
3 = invite with a flattish balanced hand (2NT and 3x would be mixed trials)
3NT = ok, why not?

Not sure the contract is better than the major suit game, but... :)

Admittedly I learned a style where 1M was 11-18 rather than 11-17 as more often said now... but think I would always downgrade a 6 LTC hand to a 1M opening in Polish.

Presumably most game tries will be accepted and 4S will still be reached after 1S-2S start.
