I don't think I object to North's bid, so I guess I don't like its explanation. I expect to be in the minority on this, but the action and explanation should match one way or the other...

The explanation except for the silly rebiddable spades matches the hand, 12HCP+2 (trump length)+3(shortness)=16+ TCP. You just overvalued that Diamonds K109x.
With a human it worth a raise to 5♠, no idea what to do with a GIB.

The book bid with that hand is Pass, but GIB did simulations and decided that 4♠ would work better. When simulating, the hand won't match the description.
I ran 10 sets of simulations, and it only chose 4♠ in 2 of them. So it's likely that if it simulated more hands, it would have gone with the book bid.
P.S. I started working for BBO last week, hence my switch from third to first person.

All 10 GIBs in this tournament bid 4♠:

At one time, there was talk about having all GIBs in a tournament start each hand with the same seed number, so they'd all make the same decisions facing the same circumstances. Is that how it currently works?
